Eat More Often to Lose Weight

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Kris Bierek Im sure you have heard it before, but one of the best ways to control your caloric intake and lose weight is to eat more often throughout the day. Ideally, you should eat 5 to 6 times per day, with 2 to 3 hours between each meal or snack. There are several reasons why this works. 1. Eating more frequently gets your metabolism going and keeps it working at an elevated level continuously throughout the day. 2. It will amp up your energy and keep your insulin level constant. 3. Because you are eating more frequently, you should eat a smaller portion at each meal or snack. Use some common sense here and remember the key word is SMALL! If you are eating your normal portions, this wont work! This isnt as hard as it sounds, because you just wont be as hungry since you just ate 2 or 3 hours ago. 4. Since you are not as hungry, it is much easier to pick a lean and healthy snack. When you let yourself get very hungry, you are much more likely to grab whatever is in sight. This is also when you start to crave all of those things that are so high in fat and calories, and you will probably eat more of it. 5. Even though you will ideally be eating LESS food that you are now, you will feel like you are eating MORE. Your mind and body will equate eating more frequently with more food, and therefore feeling more satisfied. 6. Knowing that you will be eating more often, you should plan ahead for your meals and snacks. This, too, will help to insure that you pick foods that are good for you and fit into a lean and healthy diet. 7. The thermogenic effect of eating several small meals is slightly higher than eating the same amount of calories all at once. 8. Eating little and often also really helps to control hunger and makes you less likely to binge. Is it easy to incorporate eating 5 to 6 times per day into your schedule? Not at first! It does take a little extra time and planning. Is it worth it? Absolutely! If you do it sensibly, it will help you to control your fat and calorie intake. The result is reaching and/or maintaining your weight loss goals. Another great tool is to use a diet journal to track your food intake. Once you start tracking your nutritional intake, you will really start to see every aspect of where your calories are coming from. Here is a free diet journal: http://www.shapefit.com/diet-journals.html Make sure each small meal has a lean protein source. Shoot for about 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight and divide this number by your total meals throughout the day. Here are a few quick and healthy snacks I incorporate into my daily plan: Healthy Snack #1: 1 cup of Non-Fat Cottage Cheese & 1 scoop of whey protein powder (chocolate mint). Mix them up in a bowl and you will be amazed how good it tastes! Healthy Snack #2: 1 cup of all natural rolled oats & 5 egg whites. Mix the oats with a little water and microwave for about 1 minute. Spray a little Pam cooking spray on a pan and cook up the egg whites over medium heat. Finally pour the egg whites into the oatmeal and mix. No Promotion Is Ever Wasted!

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Dr. Gary S. Goodman Every marketer wants to be clever, but how many of us rise to the occasion? For example, I dont know who invented the frequent flyer program, but I have to tip my hat to him or her. That innovation established customer loyalty and retention in an industry known for fickleness. But most of us plod along, doing what we can to build customer interest and generate a sense of value. Sometimes we hit, but more often we miss or we muddle through. Im here to tell you that failure is never what it seems to be, and of course, its never permanent. For instance, a few years ago I sent out one hundred thousand mailers that were some of the ugliest things you never saw. Believe me when I tell you, they were just a bunch of text on pages with no graphics, whatsoever. I was pitching a slate of seminars. They broke even. And I only got two clients from the mailing, as aftermarket. But one of them went to my seminar, and so I earned his tuition dollar, and then he brought me in-house. That consulting project netted over $300,000 in ten months. The other client I got was worth about $10,000, and the cost of the mailer was relatively cheap: $30,000 as I recall. But from a statistical standpoint, it was a flop. And I thought I was the biggest bozo in the world. But failure, magically, turned into success. You absolutely never know when or how a promotion will turn out. Like a horse race, favorites are not a sure thing. That also-ran, the scrappiest entry can surprise everybody, and bring in the biggest purse. Thats part of the joy of sports and marketing. So, keep plugging away, and expect a few good surprises along with the bad. Dr. Gary S. Goodman, President of Customersatisfaction.com, is a popular keynote speaker, management consultant, and seminar leader and the best-selling author of 12 books, including Reach Out & Sell Someone and Monitoring, Measuring & Managing Customer Service, and the audio program, The Law of Large Numbers: How To Make Success Inevitable, published by Nightingale-Conant. The Bridezilla Syndrome: Do You Have It? Ten Ways to Avoid All the BS!

Friday, March 28th, 2008

By Gina Romanello In a fast-paced world of wedding planning, stress levels are high; immune systems are low; and over the course of the past 20 years, brides have transmitted, what has become a bridal epidemic of our time. The number of victims has steadily increased; and to date, there is no cure. Its been dubbed various clinical names: Multiple Personality Disorder, Schizophrenia, Temporary Insanity. But in the world of matrimony, anyone whos been exposed fiancs, family, friends, and victims themselves — this broadening illness has been commonly termed Bridezilla Syndrome or BS. A contagious condition, BS has become more prominent and has plagued todays busy, wedding-planning woman. In a preliminary study, the disease has spread at an alarming rate. Symptoms of victims of BS — better known as Bridezillas — include reoccurring mood spells, bouts with selfishness, signs of controlling behavior and feelings of meticulousness. Unfortunately fiancs, bridal party members, friends and family eventually fall victim to the actions and attitudes of a Bridezilla. Research suggests that symptoms are recognized most often by the fianc and Maid of Honor, and are completely undetectable by the actual victim. In some cases, a bridal party member, who having had too much alcohol to drink, confronted the Bridezilla. Most often, an emotional, breakdown of the victim would follow, thus intensifying her condition. In a survey of 100 Maids of Honor, an alarming 85% said they avoided confrontation with the victim for fear it would only exasperate the illness. So we must ask the underlying questions: Where is all this BS coming from? How does one know when shes full of it? Unfortunately the source has not been found; though it is believed that it has existed since the dawn of the institution of marriage. A short-term condition (symptoms persist about 1-2 years depending on ones wedding date), Bridezillas seem to have been unfairly blamed for their actions, for which some believe they have no control, albeit their control over everything else. In fact, its been clinically proven that a Bridezilla actually does have feelings — feelings of selfishness, insecurity, anxiousness and stress! Though its been said there is no cure, there are ways to prevent infection of BS. A survey of healthy brides, whom successfully planned their weddings without contracting the disease, was conducted. Results showed commonalities of the actions performed to avoid the disorder. Doctors, psychologists and wedding planners strongly suggest the following preventative therapy: 1. Keep Perspective - remind yourself that the wedding is only one day in your life. When things get out of control, close your eyes and remember the reason why you are planning this wedding in the first place. 2. Dont Assume Your Groom Doesnt Want to Help - ask him what hed like to take responsibility for; and then let him. (note: some grooms may follow the clich and decline this offer.) 3. Know That You Cant Control Everything - realize this and accept it! 4 Delegate. Delegate. Delegate - If you act like you can handle everything, people will let you. Spread the duties. 5. Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff - people wont remember whether or not your invitations had those cute little tissues enclosed. 6. Treat The People You Cherish with Love - the wedding is one day; your family and friends are forever. 7. Allow Others to Vent - give your fianc, family and bridesmaids permission to tell you when youre going off the deep-end. 8. Take the Heat - give yourself permission to hear them. 9. Do Something for Yourself Every Day - the catch is that it must not involve the wedding. 10. No Wedding Talk After 10pm. Although preventative therapy is available, some brides inherently fall victim and still contract BS. But there is hope! This is not a terminal illness. In fact in most cases, the bride has been known to be miraculously cured once she has returned from her honeymoon. Doctors and psychologists theorize that the change in altitude from flying coupled with excessive levels of the love hormone, Oxytocin counteracts the disease by boosting the immune system, thus eliminating symptoms. In cases of remission, the disease has been known to resurface when a person, under certain circumstances, may be planning her wedding again. According to research, those brides with a higher IQ score avoided the reoccurrence of symptoms by simply eloping. Whatever your situation, whether a Bridezilla, fianc, friend or family member of one — join in the fight! With love, hope and education, our brides of the future and their bridal parties will have a winning chance against all the BS! The Celeb Wedding Of The Month Maybe

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Anja Merret Mr and Mrs Nayar are finally on honeymoon. It has been a nuptials with rather lengthy festivities. One wonders how often the I dos have to be said? It seems that once is not enough anymore. Elizabeth Hurley and her now husband Arun Nayar have pledged their troth three times in the past weeks. The pledges were spread over continents, performed in different traditions and were celebrated with umpteen changes of outfits, jewellery and attendants. Does this overwhelming excess mean that they will not be divorced in the next few years? Maybe the divorce rate is so high because people only promise once to love each other till death do them part. On the other hand, perhaps its only celebrities that need to promise more often. Thats because they are so important. Important people need to do things more lavishly, otherwise they have no meaning. And Elizabeth Hurley and husband must be important if the magazine publisher Hello! is prepared to pay a reported amount of 2mill for the pictures of the wedding. That is really a bizarre amount of money to pay for wedding pictures. Having started out their married life with such pomp and ceremony, one wonders what could be next. Anything else in their life surely will now fade into insignificance against this kind of over the top celebration. How does one cope with this let down? To a lesser degree, the ordinary people have also elevated the whole wedding event to a height that was unheard of in past generations. Only royals were inclined to be lavish. Its not uncommon for brides to spend thousands of Pounds or Dollars on a dress, which will only be worn once, flowers and decorations for a few hours, food, drink and entertainment that is lavished on guests who in many cases hardly know the wedding couple. Aunts and uncles come out of the woodwork for these events. Whatever the reasons are for people to need to spend so much money on getting married, it regrettably does not make the relationships last longer. In fact it could be interesting to see whether couples married in a magistrates court with a few mates in attendance, and a celebratory glass of something in the pub across from the court, might have a better chance of doing the till death do us part thing. Anybody with some stats? Anja Merret lives in Brighton, UK. She has recently started a blog and writes on issues that interest her from self-improvement to tech stuff for amateurs. Anja has had a varied and interesting career journey. She started as a high school teacher, changed professions to become an admin manager at her late husbands law firm because this allowed her the flexibility to look after her small children at the time. After many years she left this position to try her hand at an art gallery, moved across to public relations and finally found her niche in education again managing a computer training centre for many years. During this time she also involved herself in writing standards and qualifications in the new media field. 10 months ago she moved from South Africa to join her younger daughter. She now writes a blog and also looks after the business interests of her daughter who is a Flash and Accessibility expert. She has BA (Hons) MBA degrees and on rare occassions she feels like a frustrated wannabe academic. That passes quickly though. www.anjamerret.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Anja_Merret http://EzineArticles.com/?The-Celeb-Wedding-Of-The-Month-Maybe&id=489922 ambien next day delivery chapest zolpidem foie zolpidem sniffing lorazepam

Multipurpose Oil - Australian Tea Tree Oil

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Bryan Josling Aromatherapy is a way to maintain and lead a healthy life. It makes use of various volatile liquid extracted from plants and flowers (essential oils) to transform the mood and health of the person. Among various essential oils, there is one such oil which is known for its outstanding feature that is, antiseptic in nature. And, it is known by the name of Australian tea tree oil. Australian tea tree oil is dull yellowish in color and sometime it can also be colorless liquid. The scientific name for Australian tea tree oil is Melaleuca Alternifolia. The main ingredient of tea tree oil is Terpineol, Cineol, Pinene, Terpinenes, and various other. Australian tea tree oil in aromatherapy is usually used to heal various problems. Here, problems imply boil, dandruff, fungal infections, itching, sun burn, urinary tract infections, athletes foot, age spots etc. Australian tea tree oil is also considered as antibiotic, detoxifying, antiseptic and antifungal in nature. The inhalation of Australian tea tree oil has been proven very effective in infection like cold and flu. Other than inhalation, Australian tea tree oil is also used for massaging on various body parts as massaging helps in lessening the pain and fatigue of the body. Along that it has also being proved an effective way to deal with various mouth and teeth problems. Usually it is said that essential oils in aromatherapy must be used in diluted form. But, Australian tea tree oil is one of such oils which can also be used in undiluted form. But before using, it must be apply on the skin, in order to see that it doesnt results in redness or irritation. And, if somehow these symptoms are visible the person is suggested to visit a doctor immediately. In addition to above uses, Australian tea tree oil is also a main ingredient in various lotions, creams, shampoos and other balms. Australian tea tree oil in aromatherapy is often used alone. But sometimes it is also used in blend with other oils such as clove, cinnamon etc. It is not only antiseptic in nature rather it also gives a refreshing feeling. Thus, it will be absolutely right to say that Australian tea tree oil is multipurpose oil which is used in curing various health problems such as hair, teeth, body, skin, teeth and also give s relief in problem like arthritis. It is absolutely natural oil which has no side effects. Bryan Josling is working with the Horticultural Research Station in Adelaide. He has also been involved with research on plants. Are We to Forget about God?

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Anthony Smith Are we to forget about God? There are many that keep forgetting about when they have called upon God in disasters, when a loved one dies, when a nation is at peril. Many forget about the times when a baby is about to die and they called out to God to allow the child to live and it lived. Many are tied up so much with this worlds affairs, that when God is mentioned they want to argue about freedom of religion, freedom of speech and freedom of religion. But all in all they forgot whom allowed them to have such privileges. Many forget that Israel and God go way back and we, as gentiles, are tied directly to Israel. There is a movement starting that Christian Theologists are wanting Church members to demand the world to concentrate on the environment, which is fine, but it should not, I repeat, should not be the Churches first priority. The first priority for the Ministers of the Church and also the members of the Church, is to seek out the lost for Christ. There is a movement among many Church leaders that want peaceful co-existence between all religions, making one world religion to cause peace to exist. There is a movement that desires all children to study a false doctrine, evolution. Where is the Church that Christ established, where is the Church that wasn’t afraid to speak the oracles and commandments of God, where is the Church that announces that the only way to salvation is through Jesus Christ, where is the Church of Strength and purpose? Where is their cry for the lost when they speak of the environment? Where is their cry for the dieing when they speak of building bigger and better church buildings? Are we to forget God and His Sons sacrifice so easily? Where is their cry, when one religion demands that all are subject to their will and if any refuse, they are to be executed? Is this really going on? The answer is yes. All you have to do is look at Somalia, at Iraq, Iran, Syria, And don’t forget to look at the Palestinians against Israel. Are we to forget God? Exo 23:7 Keep thee far from a false matter; and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.I will not justify the wicked. Those that forget about God will He not justify, but will destroy. Jer 23:32 Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD.Are we to denie God and His word, are there not false gods and prophets, are we to forget about these hypocrites that say they are from God and neither recognize nor honor Him? Jer 14:14 Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.Man may control the body but Never control the soul. Zec 10:2 For the idols have spoken vanity, and the diviners have seen a lie, and have told false dreams; they comfort in vain: therefore they went their way as a flock, they were troubled, because there was no shepherd. These false doctrines have many followers. Are they just puppets for their leaders, making them kingdoms upon this earth, are they committing murder in the name of God, are they being deceived by Satan and by man? The answer again is yes. God is not unrighteous, He is not the author of murder, lies, deception nor sin, for man has it in himself to commit such things. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts. Are we to forget about God and His prophecy’s? Mat 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. These false doctrines desire us to be brought back into bondage, as were the Children of Israel under Pharaoh. 2Ti 3:1-7; This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. This is the legacy of these false gods, prophets and diviners; covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, corrupted minds, reprobate, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God. Are we then to join with them and forget about God? Are we to make a pact with the Devil? What happened to; I am set for the defense of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.? Shout to the Lord, all ye Earth, Let us Sing! Power and Majesty and Praise to the King. 1Jo 4:2-3 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God Are we then to forget about God? Considering Success in Marriage

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By C. Smith Your success in marriage depends largely upon having sound and constructive attitudes toward love. For Americans, this can be difficult. Especially because of the fictions weve been taught since childhood, which are supported by movies and other cultural influences. In fact, the love upon which so many base their marriages is one or a combination of the following: 1. The appeal of the romance and adventure of marriage itself 2. The response to a person who reminds them of some one whom they have loved 3. The desire to escape from an unhappy situation 4. Consolation for failure or disappointment 5. Social pressures and/or the fear of being “left on the shelf” 6. Sexual desires 7. Some minor point of attraction These forms of love are not false they are very real. Often, they are intense enough to give a person an overwhelming feeling of certainty about marriage. And some of them such as numbers 1, 6 and 7 have a proper place in marriage. Their danger is that they are superficial. No single one of them, or all of them together, is strong enough to constitute the foundations of a successful marriage. Yet these deceive people who believe that “love is enough” into choosing unsuitable mates. Love which can make a marriage rich and worthwhile must go far deeper. It must be based upon such things as common interests, ideals, values, and goals which involve worthy purposes. A common desire to have and raise happy and healthy children is among the strongest and most important of these common goals. Such a love is not something which you “fall in” before you marry. Rather, it is something which you build together through the years. Those who have found a sounder base for love wil find that the thrill, glow, and romance of their marriage increases over time. The richest joy of marriage comes from a relationship with each other which constantly develops and matures. The deepest and most abiding love is that which has become an expression of all life’s experiences and meanings for you both. Teddy Bears - Why Not Make Your Own?

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By John Gibb A really great present to get for your own child or a relatives is a teddy bear that youve made yourself. Basic teddies are actually surprisingly easy to make, but youre free to put as little or as much effort in as you want. If you spend a long time on it, you can make a teddy to rival anything put out by the big teddy manufacturers. Although there are many fabrics and methods you can use to make a teddy, probably the best is knitting with yarn. It is easy to find yarn in a very good teddy-like shade of brown, and teddy knitting patterns are readily available all over the Internet search for teddy knitting to find whole sites devoted to knitting teddies and other soft animal toys. Once you have the pattern, you need to find a good stuffing for the teddy. Cotton wool is an easy to find, cheap and soft material, but you can stuff a teddy with almost anything you want. Avoid man-made materials and stick to the natural stuff and you shouldnt go far wrong. When it comes to making the eyes and the nose, plastic buttons will do, but the best material to use is glass beads. Two black glass beads will give your teddy beautiful, friendly eyes, and they dont even cost all that much from most craft stores. To finish the teddy off, you can tie a silk bow around its body or its hair, to make it look like a really pretty present. Fix it in place with a few threads so it cant come untied, and it can become a permanent feature of the teddy. One warning, though: making teddies can be very addictive! Once youve made your first one, its tempting to just keep on going. But then, theres nothing wrong with that, is there? Safety Tips for Oxygen Equipment: Know How to Do It Right

Monday, March 17th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Anne_Clarke] Anne Clarke Some of the highest quality oxygen equipment is designed exclusively for hospital use. There are many things to consider when purchasing the right kind of oxygen equipment. It must be considered based on the diagnosis, whether someone has been diagnosed with asthma, emphysema, or any other kind of pulmonary condition. Another aspect that must be taken into account is whether he or she has just recently been diagnosed, or if the disease is still in its early stages. The difference of someones ability to use more portable oxygen equipment may depend on whether it has progressed to more advanced stages. More considerations must of course, be taken into account, such as the individuals medical history, family medical histories etc. It is often suggested by doctors that the patient have one or even two back up oxygen mechanisms for their condition in case of an emergency. If a patient uses home oxygen equipment that patient is most likely to have direct and consistent contact with a doctor and virtually always the patient has a caregiver who lives with him or her. The following are some basic guidelines to remember for a caregiver, as well as the patient using any home oxygen equipment: 1. Always be sure that your oxygen tanks are upright. This is very important to the distribution of oxygen into the patients medical apparatus and therefore, his or her lungs. 2. Even if an oxygen tank is old or not currently being used by the patient, never smoke or light fires of any kind whatsoever around these tanks. 3. Warn people! Wherever you store the patients oxygen equipment be sure to put up no smoking signs even if it is unlikely that someone would smoke there. 4. Keep a fully functional fire extinguisher in the house. In addition, let the local fire department know of your individual situation and the kind of equipment you use. 5. The patient must never increase or decrease the amount of oxygen he or she is taking without the expressed permission of a doctor. Like many kinds of medication too much can be harmful, and too little is harmful as well. 6. Always have the phone number for the manufacturers of your oxygen equipment handy. Just as you keep the phone numbers of your doctor, poison control hotlines, or any other emergency telephone numbers. 7. Liquid oxygen tanks make for a good back up oxygen source. They are simple to use in case of a blackout or other possible causes of home oxygen equipment failure. There are all kinds of equipment out there for each and every type of pulmonary condition no matter what it is or how far the disease has progressed. And, naturally, there are also specific guidelines that MUST be executed and followed to the letter for every piece of virtually life saving oxygen equipment available. Warning: Don’t Let Your Business Become a Commodity

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Mary Eule The first question every potential customer, client, patient, etc. should ask when shopping for products or services is, Why should I do business with you? This question is so basic, so reasonable, so simple a complete no-brainer for anyone in business, right? Apparently not, because very few business owners and entrepreneurs know how to answer it! And although they dont come right out and say, You should do business with us, because were pretty much the same as our competitors but were good at it, but it amounts to pretty much the same thing. Not much differentiation there. Customers see parity everywhere. They are bombarded daily with advertisements for just about everything and have learned to tune out most of the noise. As consumer loyalty becomes a thing of the past companies are scrambling to invent new ways of acquiring that ever-elusive buyer, exacerbated by the vast number of new choices available on the internet and the relative ease of purchase. In this environment it is even more important for businesses to stand out from the herd to avoid being lumped into the commodity basket. What is a commodity? Simply put: Goods that are perceived as identical and therefore must compete on price. Companies are forced into this undesirable place primarily because their inside reality does not match outside perception. In other words, consumers may look at your business; your competitors businesses; and/or some completely unrelated business and view them as the same thing. Therefore, they are left with choosing one company over the other on price or convenience. And while some companies can operate in this arena for a while, it ultimately moves them closer to extinction and means theyll never be able to command a healthy price for their products or services. And businesses will continue to compete in this way until they do something to alter their prospects perceptions! Remember, perception is reality, even if its not true! Surpassing the Commodity Ambush The greatest challenge for any business today is learning how to create and articulate their unique benefits, thus surpassing the commodity trap. However, this can be accomplished relatively easy using a step-by step approach. The first step is recognizing and acknowledging that the marketplace sees you as a commodity. Dont fight it its a competitively powerful perspective to admit youre pretty much the same as your competitors; to be realistic and see your company through the eyes of your customers and prospective customers. Next, you must identify the specifics area where your inside reality doesnt match outside perceptions by asking current, prospective and former customers to help you identify gaps. These can be skewed in several different ways. For instance, lets assume that youre the most knowledgeable, educated and competent financial advisor in your area, having earned and saved your clients much more than your competitors. At a networking event you give your business card to a qualified prospect in need of your services and you schedule an initial meeting in your office. However, when the prospect arrives the waiting room is bland and the sofa upholstery is threadbare; the rest rooms are in desperate need of cleaning; your receptionist is curt; your office is a mess and you cant find the forms you need. Then you spend the next hour reiterating the professional qualities you posses careful attention to details, reliable service, thoroughly researched advice, etc. Youre convinced that you have the know-how and abilities to provide the very best financial advice to him or her, but they choose another company. Why? Because there was a huge gap between what you said and what they experienced. Your words said, quality and professionalism and your environment and staff said exactly the opposite! As the saying goes, If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, its probably a duck. What does a dirty bathroom have to do with sound financial advice? In this case, everything. So you can either argue the point (i.e. one has nothing to do with the other) all the way to the poor house or do whatever is necessary to create an office environment that reflects your level of professionalism. Alternatively, your customers may continue to choose you over a competitor because you consistently deliver more product or service value that youre not even aware of! And again, the only way to find this out for certain is to ask your repeat customers! For example, women may choose one comparable hair salon over the other because they are more careful schedulers and they never have a long wait. Presto! Instant differentiation handed to you on a silver platter! The third, and possibly the worst, perception gap brings us back to the commodity nowhere land. In order to transcend this place youll need to force an apples and oranges comparison between your company and the competition. You must design, execute and communicate such significant differences between you, that it customers would be foolish to take their business anywhere else, regardless of price. Caution! Do not confuse think that you can accomplish differentiation by drumming up false, but clever, promises. You should never underestimate consumer, they are not stupid. One of the quickest ways to destroy your business is to communicate value you cannot deliver. For instance, I recently went to a local retailer that advertised their open hours as Monday through Friday for 8 am-5pm. When I arrived at 2pm the door was locked, the lights were out no one home. Annoyed, I grabbed my cell phone and dialed the telephone posted on their sign.Instead of reaching a real, live human being my call was answered by a machine, with the greeting, Hello and thank you for calling company X where customer service is our # 1 priority. (If customer service is there #1 priority, Id hate to experience numbers 2 and 3!) And the bottom line is that it does not matter whether they really believe and/or deliver exceptional customer service most of the time because my total, albeit brief, experience with this business was unsatisfactory. Tip:You cannot advertise your way to superior performance. If you choose to tell the public how wonderful you are make yourself wonderful first.
